Beholder of the Epistemic - Colour Pencil Portrait of Socrates, Aristotle and Plato

The piece is called “Beholder of the Epistemic”, depicting three of the most prolific Greek philosophers - Socrates, Aristotle and Plato, while resting above the earth with a luminescent book floating below.

It was a fully custom made design completed using Prisma soft core colour pencils on A4 paper. It’s probably one of my favourite pieces due to its multi-layered concepts.

The piece illustrates the origin of knowledge and the importance of its Epistemological underpinnings.

Epistemology is the study of knowledge and how knowledge comes to be known - our underlying world views so to speak. Epistemology is a study deeply rooted in Greek philosophy.

The illustration of the book resembles our historical documentation of endless knowledge.

The illustration of the globe reflects the all wide encompassing influence philosophy has made upon the world and how it has shaped our way of thinking today.
